right now. nick smith is at the scene and joins us live with what he is learning. reporter: the white smoke is a good sign because that tells you it is dying down. at its peak, it was thick, heavy, gray, as far as great america parkway. take a look behind me. crews are still using ladders to tackle the flames. here's some pictures we were given as soon as we got here. look at these photos taken by john phillips who happened to be passing by at the time. you can see thick, black smoke, and even bright orange flames. firefighters battling a five are alarm blaze that had them concerned it could spread. this is a building in downtown san jose. first reported around 3:00 p.m. we know this is a nonresidential building at park avenue and montgomery street. this building was housing a local tv station and is across

the street from a san jose fire department training center. the fire department is concerned about a possible structure collapse and ordered all units to stay 100 feet away from the building. officials tell me a wall partially clapped. this is part of the a's ball park plan. firefighters have taken a defensive mode. does not seem to be a disruption to cal trains. trains service. people who know the building said it has sat vacant for a while and is tagged with graffiti and at it popular with squatters. i'll have an opportunity to speak to the san hoe sigh fire department public incomes officer there have been no reports of injury. nick smith, abc7 news. the search is on tonight for the cause of a dramatic east bay fire that heavily dammed four businesses.

that fire began last night in berkeley where the smoke and flames could be seen for miles. flames tore into power lines, creating sparks and knocking out services to several nearby business until late this morning. cornell bernard is live in berkeley where owners are now trying to pick up the pieces. reporter: almost 24 hours later, believe it another not, this fire is still smoldering, firefighters still on scene here, looking for a cause of the massive plays which destroyed several businesses inside the warehouse. >> boy. i don't know. i can't believe what i see. i can't believe it. >> bill is getting a closeup look at what is left of the warehouse he owns. after a big fire heavily damaged three businesses and destroyed a million dollars worth of inventory at his import tile company. which now looks like a moonscape. >> there's no evidence of the glass anywhere. must have melted.

>> the five-airplane fire was incredible. it took 70 firefighters several hours to contain it. during the firefight, live power lines actually fell on to firefighters. >> dropped across the chief's vehicle. and one of the power lines did touch one of our firefighters but theyget shocked. >> this areaal picture was taken from a ladder truck, capturing the scope of the fire. investigators are yellow tagging parts of the building too dangerous to enter and are looking through the rubble. >> we're looking at everything around the building, behind the building, inside the building. >> it had completely spread down despite the wind blowing this way. >> import tile company co-owner if help larson says she has insurance and will restock and rebill. >> i'm just grateful no person

was injured. and that what was lost is stuff. reporter: the chief says heavy equipment will be brought in tomorrow, allow investigators to dig through the rubble. the atf is assisting in the case. pg&e has restored power to the entire area. the business to the far right behind me, it's called the wooden duck, owners tell me their storage facility, obviously a total loss. but their showroom on the other side, near the east sore freeway, it is fine. they say they will re-open tomorrow. we're live in berkeley. abc7 news. >> another business was gutted by fire in the east bay at 8:00 this morning. flames badly damaged the love at first slice pizza shop in newark. located in a strip mall. firefighters say there is some smoke damage to neighboring businesses, including a shoe store no one was injured.

developing news out of kansas city, kansas. three people are dead in a 15-year-old is in critical condition after shootings at two jewish facilities facilities anb of the city. police have a suspect in custody and will only say he is a man in his 70s who is not from kansas. witnesses say two people were shot and killed at the jewish community center of greater kansas city and one was kill at village shalom, a retirement community several blocks away. >> daly city police want to learn more about an early morning shooting that injured two people. someone reported the shooting just before 6:00 this morning inside a home on skyline drive near northridge drive. officers discovered two victims, a man and woman, when they arrived. paramedics rushed both to the hospital. one of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. san francisco police are investigating a stabbing in the tenderloin. happened this morning at a residential hotel. officers say a 35-year-old map was taken to the hospital with

stab wounds. his condition has not been released. early information indicates it was domestic violence situation. now to new depths in the tour bus tragedy that killed ten people. the ntsb says it plans to remain on the crash scene for another five to ten days. investigators are now planning to meet with the owners and operators of the bus and expect to have a preliminary report in 30 days. the crash happened on thursday when a bus carrying high school students from southern california to humboldt state, and a fedex big rig, crashed head-on near orland. investigator will be conducting followup interviews with witnesses. >> our fire group has examined the accident scene and vehicles. there is no evidence of preimpact fire located at the accident scene. on the median or on the highway.

>> that finding contradicts an earlier statement from a witness who reported flames from the truck. the ntsb released in photographs. this shows an investigator pointing to the ecm box on the crash which records speed and braking information. the ecm for the fedex truck was destroyed in the crash. we're learning more about the victims. all teens are from southern include, including honor students and athletes. investigators say everyone on the bus has been accounted for. the victims include a recruiter and two chaperones. they recently got engaged in paris. the driver of the bus heading to humboldt state is san mateo native. the driver of the fedex truck is 32-year-old tim evans

of elk grove. the crash injured at least 30 other people. one victim is speaking publicly for the first time. high school student miles hill actually saw the truck heading right toward the bus. >> i was sitting next to my friend. i pushed her down so the truck hit us, flames just kind of went everywhere but my face. and my hair sucks, but next thing i did, i kicked out the window and booked it. >> hills also said the truck was not on fire before it hit the bus. we will continue to follow the tour bus tragedy on air and online. you can follow our reporting on twitter. one of the 49ers' biggest stars faces more legal trouble this evening after being arrested by police at los angeles international airport. witnesses say alden smith appeared to be drunk. lax police claim smith yelled the word, bomb, inside a

a new report about another possible problem on the new bay bridge. cable stretches and rods are rusting. the rust has been found inside one of the chambers where a suspension cable is attached. engineering experts say the corrosion is significant but a it makes the rods and cable strands vulnerable to cracking. the experts say the rust could lead to structural damage if the corrosion worse worsens. a bridge spokesperson says crews continue to work and there's no concern about corrosion. >> a many road through yosemite

is re-opening tomorrow. glacier opinion road has been closed because of snow and icy conditions, and recently opened to bicyclists and will open to vehicles tomorrow. visitors are urged to use caution on the road. it may be wet bus of melting snow. it's not aing my. sometimes firefighters really do rescue cats stuck in trees. and the san jose fire department tweeted these pictures after a cat got stuck in a tree. the cat managed to climb about 50 feet up into the tree. police even closed roads for a short time while fire crews used the ladder to reach the cat. traffic started moving once firefighters rescued the cat safely. firefighters are getting the upper hand on a building fire. a progress check on breaking news we're following for you. fire crews working to knock down this fire in san jose. a pleasant sunday in the bay area. some warmer weather is coming.

updating breaking news. huge clouds of black smoke rose over downtown san jose after a fire breck out inside a veining cap building at park avenue and montgomery, about two blocks from the cal train station. the fire started inside a building that once housed a tv station. fire crews raced from across san jose and neighboring cities to battle flames. no injuries have been reported. our reporting continues on twitter. fortunately not a lot of wind in that area. frances dinglasan is doing weather. winds have been calm. >> they have been moving at five to ten miles-per-hour. right now they're around nine miles-per-hour in san jose

some locations. breezy and cooler on tuesday. with the pacific satellite image i can show you this area of low pressure in the jet stream and that's ridge that gives us the minor warming interest enterinto tomorrow. tomorrow morning's lows around 6:00, just before sunrise, look for it to be also cooler. we'll see a lot of upper 40s instead ander in 50 in some locations. 50 in san francisco and richmond, as well as oakland. 47, napa. so clear skies out there. so we'll lose heat overnight but it will allow us to warm up as well early on in the morning. so mild temperatures in the south bay. 77 your high in san jose. normal temperature is 70. so we're a good few degrees warmer than normal. upper 70s through los altos and the her part of the peninsula. downtown san francisco, 68 for year.

even without tiger and phil there was a lot of anticipation going into the final round of the masters at 20-year-old jordan spieth tried to become its youngest winner ever. early it looked like this would be hi day. on fourth, chips out of the sand and goes in for a birdie. can you believe it? then on seven, spieth shows great touch as he picks up another birdie. that put him up by two. but his lead quickly defueled while effect bogey's eight and nine. a watson was then up by two strokes, spieth could never catch up. on 12, his ball will go into the
